Tyler Lewis is the Managing Director of Communications for Third Sector, located in Washington, D.C. In this role, Tyler is responsible for developing and executing communications strategies to promote and enhance the organization's reputation and drive growth.
For 16 years, Tyler worked in the communications shop of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights and The Leadership Conference Education Fund, most recently as its director of coalition communications and research. In this role, he was responsible for developing and implementing strategies to maximize the communications capacity of the coalition, managing the organizations' message development projects, and managing the organizations' brand identity in all public communications. He led or co-led the coalition's communications strategies around many initiatives, including the enforcement of civil rights in education during the Trump administration and the civil rights community's GOTV efforts in 2020. He is also an accomplished speechwriter.
Before joining The Leadership Conference and The Education Fund, Tyler worked in communications at Pre-K Now, a public education and advocacy organization advancing high-quality, voluntary pre-kindergarten for all.
Tyler is board chair of Rethink Media, a nonprofit communications organization that works to minimize competition, maximize resources, and raise the voices of underrepresented spokespeople in progressive movement advocacy, and a board member of Justice Policy Institute, a national nonprofit organization developing workable solutions to problems plaguing juvenile and criminal justice systems.
He is also a 2019 Global Messaging Program fellow, a prestigious, rigorous program designed to equip progressive leaders with the tools to develop more effective campaign messaging. Tyler has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Creative Writing from Carnegie Mellon University.
